A Waffen SS Enlisted personnel M40 field cap, constructed of field grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold down walls which slope downward toward the peak. Visible on the former is the unmistakable outline of an SS style eagle insignia which has been removed from the cap, resulting in some disruption of the underlying wool and leaving the remains of period stitching embedded in the material.
